The Paloma Throw was designed by Maggie Stephenson, a Polish-born artist and illustrator based in Florida, known for her warm, nature-inspired use of form and color. The design for this blanket came from a year when travel wasn't in the cards - so Maggie did it in her mind instead. She pictured tropical summer days in a fun getaway city, and the result is this sun-drenched scene: figures lounging by the water, striped beach umbrellas, swaying palms, and ice cream sundaes on a café table. All rendered in her signature loose line style across a soft blush background with pops of terracotta, gold, and green.Read our interview with Maggie here.

Every Slowdown Studio throw starts as an original artwork. We collaborate with independent artists around the world to translate their creativity into woven form. The Paloma Throw is jacquard woven in the USA from cotton with at least 25% recycled cotton: lightweight, textured, and built to last. Use it as a couch blanket, a bed blanket, a wall art tapestry, or wherever you need a little colour or personality.
About the Artist

Maggie Stephenson is a Polish-born artist and illustrator based in Florida. Inspired by the beauty of nature and the human experience, she’s known for her distinctive use of form and color, creating art that feels warm and approachable. 

In her spare time, Maggie enjoys slowing down with her loved ones and her two pets, Peanut the cat and Lady the dog and spending time outdoors whenever she can.

"The inspiration for this blanket came from the fact that I didn’t get to travel much this year. Life was just full of ups and downs and it kind of put a damper on taking a proper vacation. So instead I traveled in my mind. I pictured tropical summer days in a fun getaway city, surrounded by people, eating ice cream, relaxing by the water. That’s the kind of feeling I wanted the blanket to carry. I hope it resonates and brings that sunshine energy into homes." - Maggie
