"Scribbly Gum" was designed by Australian artist Deb Chapman for Slowdown Studio. Deb creates intuitive abstract work with coloured pencils and acrylic on timber boards, drawing from the Australian landscape she lives in. This piece takes its name from the Scribbly Gum, a native eucalyptus marked by the winding trails of moth larvae tunnelling through its bark, the starting point for a single continuous line that meanders across a warm brown ground, carrying blocks of colour as it travels. We recommend our professional framing service so your print arrives as framed art, ready to hang, with every edge sitting perfectly flush.

About the Artist

What inspired your artwork for this print?

This piece is inspired by Australian Scribbly Gum. A Eucalyptus tree we have here in Australia that gets its name from the marks left behind on its bark by the larvae of the Scribbly gum moth.

How does where you live influence your work?

Not so much my town but the Australian landscape as a whole. 

What's your favorite way to slow down?

I’ve recently purchased a mirrorless Fujifilm camera I love wandering and taking photos of little unexpected things flowers, grass and things you’d normally walk past. I’m curious about photographing tree bark to incorporate in my art practice.
