Mercer Throw

The Mercer Throw was designed by Sam Smith, a graphic designer and artist based in London. Sam's work is rooted in the city but his imagination lives elsewhere - specifically in the dramatic coastlines of Hawaii and California, where sun, surf, cliffs and subtropical landscapes give him a near-endless source of material to draw from.

The Mercer Throw feels like a view from underwater. Branching, flowing forms in burnt orange, cobalt blue, forest green, dusty lavender, warm pink, mustard and near-black weave across a cream background with no start and no end point - like coral and kelp caught mid-drift. The palette is bold but the shapes stay organic, keeping it warm rather than graphic.

Every Slowdown Studio throw starts as an original artwork. We collaborate with independent artists around the world to translate their creativity into woven form. The Mercer Throw is jacquard woven in the USA from cotton with at least 25% recycled cotton: lightweight, textured, and built to last. Use it as a couch blanket, a bed blanket, a wall art tapestry, or wherever you need a little colour or personality.
